This email is jam-packed with freelance goodies and goodness
Hello
Have you ever had that moment where you put on an outfit and felt like it really didn’t fit? You know, that genuine moment where you feel exposed and self conscious? That’s kind of how I have been feeling for the longest time about newsletters. Everyone seems to be on the pull, shaking their money maker and decidedly annoying.
I tried it. I didn’t like it. So I’ve stripped off, put on some comfy shit and am going back to basics. I like sharing stuff, so that’s what I am going to do. What you do with it is up to you.
Before I forget- the results of the 2017 Australian Freelance survey are coming. Expect to see them next email. Excited? I am!
Let’s get to the fun stuff, shall we?
Things that have tickled my brain
I’m so glad the starving artist myth is getting a stick poking. Ponder a well placed ‘no’ and see why brutal creative truths are good for the soul. I wish I’d mastered these 6 skills earlier in life and am up for spotting business bullshit, aren’t you? Want something more from life? You might need to give up a few things first. Don’t get suckered by clients that want you to cut your rates. Create killer portfolios instead.
Things that have got me creating and writing
I’m sick of do what you love and the damage it does. I interviewed 3 hot freelancers about what it takes to create an amazing course. I challenged some really risky marketing tactics. Got go-to agency gal Sarah Morton to share why she’s always booked. I wrote about problems with freelance eBidding sites. I’m encouraging workplaces of all size to make mentally healthy workplaces a priority. I’d like us to take 9 minutes and meditate on what it takes to make a good product.
